myMatrixx unique focus.
myMatrixx is a pharmacy services company specializing in pain management outcomes and recovery. We go beyond processing administrative tasks. We become part of the recovery solution as a pain management expert. Our experience in pharmacy benefits management has shown us that the majority of patients in our program are addressing pain resulting from their injuries. In fact, over 90 percent of all prescriptions we processed were directly related to an injury and used to treat pain.
Pain is a disease state and, if unresolved after six months, it can become a chronic condition and may require long-term drug therapy. This keeps patients from returning to work and normal daily routines and dramatically increases payers’ costs.
Why focus on pain outcomes?
Pain is draining our society and your bottom line. Some of the best available statistics estimate that pain costs the U.S. $100 billion annually, including $60 billion in lost productivity. Our research shows that when a patient develops chronic pain (defined as duration greater than six months), drug costs typically average about $100 in the first year, then rise to nearly $500 per month for extended periods – sometimes many years after the injury. myMatrixx views this as an opportunity to find effective pain management outcomes and recovery solutions and to help get people healthy.
It is important to understand the distinction between acute and chronic pain, the treatment of each type of pain and the consequences. Chronic pain is defined as pain that has duration of greater than six months, versus short-term or acute pain. Current methods for treating chronic pain are additive, meaning that with each re-evaluation by a physician, more drugs or higher dosages are used to combat the persistent pain. More is not always better, and this process is usually ineffective. Instead, chronic pain should be treated using an iterative process in which pain is evaluated at regular intervals and new treatments are introduced to disarm the chronic pain.
